BERLIN (AP) — Chile's President Michelle Bachelet says she wants to expand cooperation with the European Union, building on a decade-old trade pact.
Bachelet said Monday she is aiming for an upgrade her country's association agreement with the EU "now that Chile demonstrated what it is capable of."
Chile's economy is strong, with a wealth of copper and other natural resources, and is regarded as among the best-managed in Latin America.
Bachelet spoke in Berlin after meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Merkel said Germany would support Chile's efforts to expand relations with the EU, citing recent agreements between the 28-nation bloc and two other Latin American countries — Peru and Colombia.
