Brazil's Rousseff: Economy to Grow More In 2013

BRASILIA--Brazil's economy is set to grow more in the coming quarter and the government doesn't need to make changes in its economic advisory team due to recent sluggish growth, Brazil's President Dilma Rousseff said Friday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a summit of Mercosur leaders, the president said she was confident the economy was set to accelerate in 2013.

"We're growing at 0.6% this quarter and we're going to grow more in the next quarter," she said.

The president rejected a recent call in the Economist, the British economic news weekly, that she should fire Finance Minister Guido Mantega in order to assure maintenance of solid economic performance for the country.

She said that under "no circumstances" would her government consider altering policy choices based on recommendations from a foreign magazine.

Brazil's IBGE statistics institute last week reported the country's economy grew by 0.6% in the third quarter compared with the second quarter and by 0.9% compared with the third quarter of 2011.

The growth data came far below projections from market analysts.
