Head of the OSCE office in Yerevan, Ambassador Sergey Kapinos explained to the mass media his comments on his statements on Armenia’s economic system at the roundtable on Armenia’s business environment, March 11, 2011.
The report says:
“The economic model formed in Armenia in 1990s has much in common with the monopoly system found in many of the Latin American countries. I am for evolutionary development. Evolution of society is a reform. If reforms are viewed only as a cosmetic measure, it can only complicate the problems. I think reforms can be successfully implemented in Armenia, but it is only the Armenian people that can decide on the need for, advisability and forms of the reforms. International agencies can only give advice and provide support.”
At the roundtable on business environment in Armenia, Ambassador Kapinos and Head of the IMF office in Armenia Guillermo Tolosa had a debate over approaches to economic reforms in Armenia.
