Brazil Payrolls Reach New Record High for August

BRASILIA--Brazil's payrolls rose in August and reached new record for the month, the country's Labor Ministry reported Friday According to the Labor Ministry, Brazil's economy created 127,648 new jobs in August.


The number is above market projections, which called for 94,000 new payrolls, and is the best result ever for the month.

After the worst July of the last 10 years, where 41,000 new jobs were created, the Labor Ministry said that good results in August are "attributed to seasonal and situational factors."

The ministry said that 1,845,915 people were hired in August, while 1,718,267 people lost their jobs.

The latest result shows that Brazil has created 1,076,511 new jobs so far this year, up 2.72% from same period in 2012. In the eight sectors examined by the ministry, payrolls increased in six.

The services sector had the most jobs created, with 64,290 new positions. The farm sector, which led Brazil's GDP growth in the last two quarters, had the worst result, with 12,092 firings.
